Terrain Solar is an Australian owned and operated business that is developing innovative and strategically located solar farms across regional Australia. From initially locating suitable land and partnering with landowners, we take projects through engineering design, planning approval, grid connection, financing & investment stages and into construction and operation.
The company brings together industry leaders with a strong track record in the development of large-scale renewable energy projects. The team have collectively developed over 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy projects across Australia, South Africa and the Pacific Region and are specialists in the land use, planning, engineering, energy and finance sectors.
Co-Founder & Managing Director
Chris has over 10 years’ experience in the solar PV industry developing, designing, constructing, financing and commissioning solar power projects throughout Australia and South East Asia. He has worked with leading developers and construction companies to deliver some of Australia’s first large-scale solar farms. In total he has helped develop, engineer or construct over 850MW of solar PV projects, of which over 500MW of solar farms are either operational or under construction.
Co-Founder & Managing Director
Simon is an environmental markets & project development specialist with a decade of experience in designing and executing projects in the Environment & Renewable Energy sectors. Simon has worked across the Indo-Pacific region, successfully developing over 70 large-scale land sector projects, of which several were first-of-a-kind.
Director & Chairman
David has been active in developing utility-scale solar and wind farms in Australia since 2000, through his own development companies and during his time as General Manager of Infigen Energy. Of the projects he has developed to date, 231 MW of solar PV and 416 MW of wind farms have been commissioned, and approximately 2 GW of wind and solar are in an advanced stage of development. He retains an interest in half of these development projects.
David is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is on the Board of a number of renewable energy related companies where he brings his long-term development and renewable energy technology expertise to bear. He is also an active angel investor.
Sam worked in London within PwC's Global Private Equity advisory team and Sydney within Macquarie Capital's Climate Change Investment team prior moving to South Africa to help start up African Clean Energy Developments (ACED), Macquarie's renewables development joint venture with Old Mutual. ACED established itself as a leading developer in the South African market going on to be awarded in excess of 500MW of renewable energy contracts.
Sam returned to Sydney in 2013 to assist with the formation of Macquarie's new joint venture in Japan focusing on green field solar PV developments. Having completed this role, Sam now fulfils non-executive functions related to the South African businesses and other investments in the Australian renewable energy industry.
Networks Commercial Manager
Craig brings over 20 years’ experience in and around all aspects of the large-scale energy industry, with deep understanding of Retail, Wholesale, Network, and Renewables.
Craig combines this rare experience with a very customer focused and problem-solving approach.
For Terrain Solar, Craig applies his abilities to such things as network connection negotiation and project management; PPA negotiation and deal management; business development; and anything else the team requires.
Technical and Engineering Manager
Jake has over 10 years’ experience working as a solar PV engineer in the industry. Originating from the U.S. Jake worked on some of the earliest utility scale solar projects in California and Arizona on behalf of Suntech Power. He then migrated to Australia specialising in designing and installing utility scale rooftop and ground- mount Commercial and Industrial (C&I) PV solar projects before joining Terrain Solar in 2017 as the Technical and Engineering Manager.
Jake leads Terrain Solars’ technical development work, coordinating and supporting engineering work streams from early project inception through to “shovel ready” stage.
Planning and Project Coordinator
Thomas has over 8 years experience as a town planner, development assessor and project approvals manager. His career has involved working on the assessor side of development projects, including the assessment of wind farm development applications on behalf of relevant Council consent authorities. In his previous role, Thomas worked on coordinating planning approvals for the Sydney Airport Corporation, providing instrumental support to the infrastructure and building projects around the airport.
Thomas coordinates Terrain Solar's development application processes and project management across the portfolio.
Design and EPC Specialist
Ben brings deep experience in managing utility scale renewable energy projects gained from over a decade managing a broad range of project stages, from early phase development through to design, construction and commissioning. Ben's career in renewables has chiefly been as a Design Manager and Project Manager in EPC delivery of large-scale renewable energy projects. More recently Ben has focused on early-stage project development in the generation and transmission space, including consulting to transmission companies, utilising his broad experience to ensure projects are optimised for shovel ready stage.
Terrain Solar and PwC
Terrain has engaged PwC on an exclusive basis to provide legal, financial advisory, debt capital advisory, tax, accounting and financial due diligence services in relation to the Portfolio.
PwC and Terrain have been working together to develop solar projects since April 2017 and have already reached significant milestones with the successful sale of the Molong Solar Farm to TEC-C Investments, the Warwick Solar Farm to the University of Queensland a portfolio of solar farm projects to Metka EGN.
PwC’s involvement covers competitive procurement processes across all elements of the project delivery, including EPC services, high voltage works, revenue offtake arrangements and the capital sources across both debt and equity. PwC’s co-development of solar PV projects across the NEM, which represents accumulated installation capacity of 1.5GW, provides unmatched visibility of the renewable energy market in Australia.
